FAQs

Common questions

Is Japan safe for solo female travelers?

Japan is consistently ranked among the safest countries in the world for solo female travelers. Late-night solo walking is generally fine, public transport is excellent, and harassment is rare. That said, basic precautions still apply.

I don't speak any Japanese. Will I struggle?

In Tokyo and Kyoto, almost zero. Train stations, restaurants in tourist areas, and major sights have English signage. Google Translate camera mode handles menus. Our 24/7 support line is your backup for anything tricky.

What about the JR Pass — is 7 days enough?

For this itinerary, yes. The pass covers Tokyo arrival day → Kyoto departure day. If you want to add a southern island like Hiroshima or a northern trip to Hokkaido, we extend to 14 days.

Can I meet other solo travelers?

Yes — we offer optional small-group add-ons (sake tour in Tokyo, kaiseki cooking class in Kyoto) where you join other solo guests. Plenty of guesthouses also have communal dining if you want to swap our hotels.

When is the worst time to go?

Late April–early May (Golden Week — entire country travels) and mid-August (Obon — same). Cherry blossom season is spectacular but extremely crowded. We recommend October–November or late January–February.
