The Prophet's City — Al-Masjid an-Nabawi (the Prophet's Mosque), one of Islam's holiest cities, and a place of profound spiritual significance for every Muslim.
Madinah (Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah — "The Radiant City") is the second holiest city in Islam after Makkah. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) migrated here in 622 CE and established the first Islamic state. Al-Masjid an-Nabawi — the Prophet's Mosque — contains the Prophet's tomb and the Rawdah (Garden of Paradise). The mosque has been expanded to hold over 1 million worshippers and is open 24 hours. Unlike Makkah, Madinah is open to visitors of all faiths (though the mosque's inner areas are for Muslims only). The Haramain High-Speed Railway connects Madinah to Makkah via Jeddah in under 3 hours. The city is also known for its famous dates (especially Ajwa), its tranquil atmosphere, and historical Islamic sites including Quba Mosque (the first mosque in Islam) and Mount Uhud.
