The View That Sells the Hotel
Şura Hagia Sophia’s claim to fame is location. The hotel stands directly across from the Hagia Sophia, separated only by a small park. From upper-floor rooms with the right orientation, you wake up to one of the most significant buildings in human history, framed by your hotel window.
This isn’t a chain or a converted mansion — it’s a purpose-built boutique hotel opened in 2014, designed to balance modern luxury with Ottoman aesthetics. 71 rooms across 9 floors, with the most desirable being the Hagia Sophia view suites on floors 6-9.
The Sultanahmet Advantage
You’re in the heart of the old city. Walking distance to Blue Mosque (3 minutes), Topkapı Palace (8 minutes), Basilica Cistern (5 minutes), Grand Bazaar (15 minutes). The neighborhood is touristy by day but quiet by night — a peace that doesn’t exist in Beşiktaş or Taksim.
Halal dining is the default in this neighborhood — every restaurant within a 10-minute walk serves halal meat. Şura’s own restaurants follow suit. No alcohol is served on the premises, in keeping with the hotel’s market positioning.
The Spa Experience
The hotel hammam is on the basement level — a properly Turkish experience with marble göbek taşı (heated stone), scrub treatments with traditional kese mitts, and clay masks. A 90-minute traditional hammam experience runs ~€80. The hotel offers separate hours/zones for men and women.
