Oman's maritime heritage city — traditional dhow-building yards, Ras Al Jinz turtle nesting beach, the turquoise Wadi Shab, and the dramatic Bimmah Sinkhole.
Sur is a historic maritime city on Oman's eastern coast, famous for centuries of dhow-building and trade with East Africa and India. The Sur Maritime Museum and Fateh Al Khair dhow (restored 1951 ship) tell the story. Ras Al Jinz, 50 km southeast, is one of the world's most important green turtle nesting sites — guided night visits (Jun-Oct) watch turtles lay eggs on the beach. Wadi Shab, 30 km west, offers a spectacular canyon swim to a hidden waterfall. The Bimmah Sinkhole is a turquoise swimming hole in a collapsed limestone cave.
